Festival tipi

The biggest festival in the world Glastonbury opens it’s doors, somewhere in a field in Somerset today. All About ME have done a fair few festivals in our time, up and down the country from music festivals to wedding festivals. We love them! To mark the start of the festival season we’ve put together some inspiration and images to help you to throw your own Tipi festival.

So go grab your wellies and sleeping bags and get planning with our how to guide.

1)  The Venue and Tipi Festival Village

festival Tipi

First off, find the venue. Tipis are just perfect for creating that chilled out festival vibe. They can also be put up pretty much anywhere, so find some land, maybe a farmer’s field (we have a list of venues) or even your own back garden for your festival. Just like the real thing, you can create your own glamping village with our glamping tents so all your guests can head back to their comfy tents at the end of the night, before meeting back up for breakfast.

2)  Decorating the Field and Tipis

Once you have your perfect festival ‘field’, get decorating it. There are so many things you can do, but we think go bright or go home! Festoon lighting, ribbons streaming from poles, brightly coloured flowers in coloured glass jars, terracotta pots with water and floating candles for atmosphere, rustic crates filled with bright flowers, make large festival flags to line your walkways, string lights, lanterns and bright bunting from trees and around and in your tipi. Painted wooden pallets for signage always look laid back and tells people what’s where and when things are happening at the festival.

3) Invite the Festival Goers

Tipi Invites

tipi festivalGet your guests to your Tipi Festival involved in the build up by sending them brightly coloured festival invites with info of what they’ll need for the festival. Maybe even get  invites designed to look like festival tickets or on lanyards with the ‘Line Up’ for the day or weekend. Create your own festival hashtag like #wedfestKateandJim or #GardenfestLilys18th and get your festival goers to share the build up and the festival itself on social media.

4) The Food and Drinks

Every good festival has plenty of food and drink. Again there are so many option from gin bars to fish and chip vans. Street style food is always good, so give your guests some choice by having maybe a pizza van, hog roasts or crepes and ice cream.

We have lots of brilliant people we recommend to help with your festival food, check out our suppliers page for more ideas.

5. Seating

In between the drinking, eating and partying…you can create a festival vibe with chill out seating, from sociable wooden benches, cozy beanbags to hay bale sofas. Keep the colourful festival vibe going with brightly coloured patchwork throws over your seating, which can double as blankets at night time.

6. Dress Code

Anything goes with a festival, wellies under wedding dresses, boho dresses, flowers in your hair, butterfly capes, glitter tattoos even dogs with bow ties! A festival gives everyone the chance to dress up or down, as long as they can party in it, that’s basically the only rule.

7) Festival Loos

Hmm …everyone knows about the loos at Glastonbury, they are legendary, and not in a good way. It’s one of the few festival ‘vibes’, we are not too keen on recreating! Find out about our ‘facilities’.

8) Atmosphere

People make a festival, but you can help create atmosphere with focal point activities for your festival goers like camp fires and fire pits with marsh mallows and s’mores. You can have outdoor games such as giant jenga, coconut shys and table tennis. Another cool way to record the festival goers is with a themed photo booth either in the Tipi or maybe one in a VW campervan or vintage caravan.

9) The Line Up

Music is probably one of the biggest things to get the festival vibe and a live band or two for a proper line up will get the party started. A DJ for keeping the party going into the early hours will make your festival complete. You could have a chill out tipi with comfy seating,  maybe a gin and whisky bar and a silent disco. A big dance floor and massive light up letters add a perfect backdrop.

10) Glitter Till Dawn

As the sun goes down, get your glitter on! Change up your look, with stronger make up colours and lots and lots of glitter….get your hair in some space buns and party like a true festival diva. Have fun getting all the festival goers involved with a glitter station and get everyone with sparkle on their cheeks, in their hair..the blokes too!
